Propane Prices Soften as Milder Winter Forecasts Limit Heating Draws

Weather Impacts on Heating Demand

Propane is a highly seasonal commodity, with prices typically spiking during periods of extreme cold. However, December 2025 has seen relatively mild temperatures across key heating regions in the Midwest and Northeast. This has left residential demand significantly below 10-year averages, allowing national inventories to remain at comfortable levels heading into the new year.

Industrial Feedstock Competition

In the industrial sector, propane is also facing competition from other natural gas liquids. With natural gas prices moderation, the incentive for petrochemical crackers to use propane as a primary feedstock is being challenged. Analysts at Trading Economics suggest that unless a sustained Arctic blast occurs, propane prices will likely remain stagnant through the end of the winter season.
